Stratified Differences in Society
It
is well known that there are stratified differences in society.
There
are racial differences. There are class differences. Opportunity
varies according to these differences. In other words, even the
whole destiny of life is different depending on the hierarchy.
Let
me give you an example.
More
than 1,600 of the 2,300 people on board were killed when the Titanic sank.
According
to the list of survivors, 60% of the first class ticket holders (rich
people); 36% of second-class riders (economically middle class); Twenty-four
percent of the third-class riders (poor) survived. Simply put, the poor
died significantly more than the rich.
Why does
this happen? Is there a plan to prioritize the rescue of the rich in
the event of a shipwreck? not much. There is no such deliberate plan. However, the structure of the passenger
compartment on the ship was a luxury for the rich. The
first-class compartments of the hull were located on the upper
deck of the ship, while the second-class were in the middle and lower decks. The third tier
is in the
lower abdomen. The rich at the top are the first to hear the alarm. What is
a ship? We first know what the situation is? Lifeboats were the
closest to them, so they were the
first to arrive. The lower floors were the first to sink when
the ship collided with an iceberg and sank.
Soon the entire hull was submerged, the stern was
raised, and the lights went out. It was difficult for
commuters, especially from downstairs, to reach the mainland, where
lifeboats were in the dark. Hierarchical
differences affect not only living conditions but also
life expectancy. It is an example of the fact that he even
decided not to live.
Humans first appeared on this earth about
three million years ago. From then until about 12,000 years ago, people
lived all over the world, and all societies survived by hunting and
gathering. In hunting and gathering societies, there were no social class differences.
Among them are those who run faster than others, who are stronger than others. There may be special people who are more skilled in finding food. However, they have not been given a social status. All were equal. Later, with the advent of new technologies, changes in society took place. What was once a simple society is becoming more complex. There is a difference between working from the same job.
Then, in each of the different jobs, there is an increase in specialization for each specific sector. With this change in society, some races are gaining a higher position than others. They also had higher levels of wealth and prestige than others. Social inequalities became more and more pronounced as host agricultural and pastoral society, agrarian society and industrial society gradually changed. In other words, the emergence of social strata in society.
Hierarchy is the classification of people within a society. When exploring the nature of these strata, four types were found.
(1) Social strata not only reflect the differences between individuals but also exist as a feature of the society in which they live.
(2) The social hierarchy has been around for generations.
(3) The social hierarchy exists in every society. However, the form and extent of the differences vary.
(4) Social inequality is not limited to social strata. This inequality is there to be. Reasonable ideas or beliefs are also found to coexist.
